Phillips 66® VersaTrans® CVT Plus Fluid is a premium-quality, full-synthetic transmission lubricant specifically engineered for use in passenger cars and light trucks with both belt-driven and chain-driven continuously variable transmissions (CVTs). With more than 1 million miles of on-road testing, this fluid is designed to meet the unique frictional requirements of modern CVTs while also providing service-fill capability for many step-type automatic transmissions. Its advanced chemistry ensures high steel-on-steel friction to prevent belt slippage, paired with low steel-on-paper friction to eliminate torque converter shudder. This dual-purpose formulation allows for optimized inventory management while providing industry-leading protection against wear, oxidation, and sludge formation in the most demanding stop-and-go driving conditions.

PRODUCT RESOURCES
PERFORMANCE
Dual-Friction Technology: Engineered with a high steel-on-steel friction coefficient to maximize power transfer between the belt/chain and pulleys.
Anti-Shudder Chemistry: Specifically formulated to maintain low steel-on-paper friction, eliminating the "shudder" common in torque converter lock-up.
Thermal Endurance: Full-synthetic base resists thinning and chemical breakdown even during long-duration highway hauls in high heat.
PROTECTION
Variator Shield: Robust anti-wear film prevents the microscopic pitting and scuffing of pulley surfaces that lead to catastrophic CVT failure.
Oxidation Guard: Superior resistance to thermal stress prevents the formation of performance-robbing sludge in compact transmission housings.
Seal Integrity: Specialized conditioners keep internal elastomers pliable, preventing the high-pressure fluid leaks that cause pulley slip.
UPTIME
Inventory Consolidation: A single fluid solution that safely replaces multiple OEM-specific CVT and step-type ATF fluids.
Component Longevity: Advanced anti-wear package shields critical variators and needle bearings, extending the mechanical life of the gearbox.
Consistent Response: Maintains precise hydraulic pressure for smooth, "stepless" acceleration without RPM "hunting" or hesitation.

FEATURES & BENEFITS
Multi-Vehicle Versatility: Meets performance requirements for the vast majority of Honda, Toyota, Nissan, and Subaru CVT systems.
Belt & Chain Compatible: Formulated to protect both Van Doorne belt and LuK chain designs used across major vehicle platforms.
High Shear Stability: Resists mechanical thinning, ensuring the fluid stays in grade throughout the entire service interval.
Foam Control: Prevents air entrainment to ensure a stable, non-compressible hydraulic stream for precise pulley adjustment.
Enhanced Cooling: Efficiently transfers heat away from the variator system to prevent internal component overheating.
APPLICATIONS
Passenger cars and SUVs equipped with belt or chain-driven Continuously Variable Transmissions (CVT).
Vehicles requiring a multi-vehicle fluid that covers both CVT and certain step-type automatic transmissions.
Hybrid vehicles utilizing electronic CVTs (eCVT) where low-friction efficiency is a priority.
High-heat, stop-and-go urban environments where CVT fluid stress is at its highest.
Licenses & Approvals:
Meets performance requirements for Honda (HCF-2), Toyota (FE/TC), Nissan (NS-1/NS-2/NS-3), and Subaru (Lineartronic).
Suitable for service in many step-type ATFs requiring Dexron® III or Mercon® performance.
MAMMOTH TECHNICAL TIP:
CVTs operate on a fundamentally different principle than planetary gearboxes; they rely on high-coefficient friction to transfer torque via a steel belt or chain against smooth pulleys. If the fluid's "Steel-on-Steel" friction coefficient is too low, the belt will microscopically slip, creating "micro-welds" that score the pulley faces and eventually lead to belt snap. VersaTrans® CVT Plus is engineered with a specialized additive package that maintains this high-friction interface while simultaneously providing the "Steel-on-Paper" slipperiness required for the torque converter's wet clutch. When servicing a CVT, never use standard ATF; even a small amount of friction modifier mismatch can lead to pulley glazing and an unrecoverable transmission failure.
