TRITON ® SYNTHETIC TRANSOIL 50
The Full-Synthetic Standard for Heavy-Duty Manual and Automated Gearboxes
Phillips 66® Triton® Synthetic Transoil 50 is a premium-quality, full-synthetic manual transmission lubricant specifically engineered for high-torque, heavy-duty commercial vehicle transmissions. Formulated with a 100% synthetic base stock and a robust, non-EP (Extreme Pressure) additive package, it provides exceptional thermal stability and shear resistance for extended drain intervals. Unlike standard gear oils that can be corrosive to yellow metals, Transoil 50 is chemically balanced to be completely safe for the copper and brass synchronizers found in modern manual and automated manual transmissions (AMT). This fluid ensures effortless shifting in sub-zero coastal winters while maintaining an unbreakable lubricating film under the intense heat of mountain-grade hauling.

PRODUCT RESOURCES
PERFORMANCE
Non-EP Chemistry: Formulated without sulfur-phosphorus additives to prevent the chemical pitting of yellow-metal synchronizers.
All-Season Shiftability: Superior low-temperature fluidity reduces shift effort during cold startups while maintaining high-temp viscosity.
Frictional Precision: Engineered to provide the exact grip required for synchronizers to match speeds, eliminating "gear clash."
PROTECTION
Anti-Wear Shield: Advanced additive package protects high-load bearings and gear teeth from surface fatigue and spalling.
Copper Safety: Provides a non-corrosive environment for internal brass, bronze, and copper-clad components.
Seal Integrity: Synthetic base chemistry is compatible with high-performance elastomers, preventing hardening and leaks in high-temp service.
UPTIME
Extended Service Life: Approved for 500,000-mile drain intervals in line-haul applications when paired with specific Eaton and Meritor units.
Fuel Efficiency: Lower internal fluid friction compared to mineral oils reduces parasitic drag on the engine, boosting fleet-wide MPG.
Sludge Resistance: Exceptional oxidation stability keeps the gearbox interior free of varnish and deposits that can cause valve-body sticking.

FEATURES & BENEFITS
Full-Synthetic Endurance: Outperforms conventional SAE 50 oils in every metric of thermal and mechanical stability.
Year-Round Reliability: Eliminates the need for seasonal fluid changes in variable Pacific Northwest climates.
Shear Stability: Maintains its protective 50-weight profile for the entire life of the fluid, even under extreme mechanical shearing.
Enhanced Heat Transfer: Efficiently carries heat away from the gear face to the transmission housing for better cooling.
Compatibility: Fully backward-compatible with older heavy-duty manual transmissions requiring a non-EP SAE 50 or API GL-1 fluid.
APPLICATIONS
Heavy-duty manual transmissions in on-highway trucks and buses (Eaton, Mack, Meritor).
Vocational vehicles in severe-duty service (logging, refuse, construction) requiring a synthetic manual lubricant.
Manual and automated manual transmissions (AMT) requiring a non-EP, API MT-1 or GL-1 fluid.
Off-highway equipment gearboxes and industrial drives requiring an SAE 50 weight synthetic oil.
Licenses & Approvals:
API Service MT-1, GL-1
Eaton PS-386 (Approved)
Mack TO-A Plus (Approved)
Meritor O-81 (Approved)
Navistar TMS 6816 (Approved)
MAMMOTH TECHNICAL TIP:
A common diagnostic error is treating a heavy-duty manual transmission like a differential. Standard GL-5 gear oils contain "Active Sulfur" EP additives that provide gear protection by forming a sacrificial layer on steel; however, that same sulfur will chemically attack the copper and zinc in manual transmission synchronizers, leading to "clash" and eventual syncro-ring failure. Triton® Transoil 50 uses a "Non-EP" anti-wear package that relies on high-strength synthetic esters to provide film strength without the corrosive sulfur. If you're seeing "brass glitter" in a drain pan or experiencing hard shifting into 3rd or 4th gear, it’s often a sign that the unit has been cross-contaminated with GL-5 gear oil and needs an immediate flush with a proper MT-1/PS-386 fluid like Transoil 50.
