MAMMOTH TECHNICAL TIP:
In a synchronized manual gearbox, the fluid must perform a delicate "friction dance." If the fluid is too slippery (like a high-EP gear oil), the synchronizer cannot grab the gear cone fast enough to match speeds, resulting in a grind. If it’s too thick, the fluid cannot be "squeezed" out from between the friction surfaces quickly enough. Triton® Synthetic MTF is formulated with a precise dynamic-to-static friction ratio that allows the synchronizer to "bite" effectively. If you are experiencing "hard shifting" in a 6-speed or 10-speed synchronized unit, check for fluid oxidation; as MTF ages and breaks down, its friction coefficient changes, which is why a fresh fill of full-synthetic MTF often makes an old gearbox feel brand new.
