In the world of high-hour transmissions like the GM 4L80E or Ford E4OD, "upgrading" to a modern Low-Viscosity (LV) fluid can actually lead to internal pressure loss and soft shifting due to the larger mechanical clearances in older valve bodies. Super ATF maintains the specific kinematic viscosity—7.0 cSt—that these units were hydraulically mapped for. When performing a pan-drop service on an older rig, the high Viscosity Index (188) of Super ATF is your best defense against "morning sickness" (delayed engagement when cold). It ensures that the pump can prime the circuit instantly, preventing the momentary clutch-drag that causes friction material to flake off over time.
