MAMMOTH TECHNICAL TIP:
In the world of heavy-duty repair, a common mistake is using a Universal Tractor Transmission Oil (UTTO) in a Caterpillar powershift unit. While they look similar, a TO-4 fluid like PowerDrive® has a much higher "Static Friction" requirement. If you use a UTTO, the clutches can slip under high-torque loads, generating localized heat that "cooks" the friction material. Furthermore, for final drives on larger rigs, moving to the SAE 50 or 60 grade is critical; the higher viscosity provides the "hydrodynamic lift" needed to keep the planetary gears from touching metal-to-metal when the equipment is fully loaded on a steep grade.
