TYPE M AVIATION OIL

MULTI-GRADE MINERAL-BASED ENGINE BREAK-IN OIL

WHY MAMMOTH TRUSTS THIS PRODUCT

The first 25 to 50 hours of a new or rebuilt engine are the most important miles it will ever fly. We recommend PHILLIPS 66® TYPE M because it’s a modern, multi-grade mineral oil that doesn't force you to choose between protection and performance during break-in. In the Pacific Northwest, a single-grade mineral oil can be sluggish on a cold morning start, leading to unnecessary wear. Type M provides the rapid circulation of a 20W-50 while maintaining the "high-friction" environment necessary to seat piston rings perfectly. It’s the Gold Standard for ensuring your investment hits its full TBO (Time Between Overhaul).

PRODUCT RESOURCES

ENGINE PERFORMANCE

20W-50 multi-viscosity flow ensures instant lubrication to the top end during cold starts, protecting high-stress components from the first turn of the prop.

WEAR
PROTECTION

A pure, non-dispersant mineral formula designed to allow controlled friction, ensuring piston rings seat properly against cylinder walls for a leak-free seal.

By facilitating a perfect break-in, Type M prevents "glazed" cylinders and high oil consumption, setting the stage for thousands of hours of reliable service.

APPLICATIONS & OPERATIONAL GUIDELINES

  • CRITICAL BREAK-IN: Specifically engineered for the initial 25 to 50 hours of operation in new, rebuilt, or newly overhauled aircraft engines.

  • ALL-WEATHER FLOW: Unlike traditional straight-grade break-in oils, the 20W-50 weight allows for safe operation in both summer heat and PNW winter chills without a pre-heater.

  • NON-AD FORMULA: Contains no ashless dispersant additives, which is essential during the break-in phase to allow the mechanical "wearing-in" process to occur correctly.

  • TRANSITION PROTOCOL: Once the rings are seated and oil consumption has stabilized, we recommend transitioning to PHILLIPS 66 X/C® 20W-50 for full-service ashless dispersant protection.

  • CERTIFICATIONS: Fully FAA approved and meets SAE J1966 specifications (formerly MIL-L-6082).
