In the hangars across the Pacific Northwest, PHILLIPS 66® TYPE A is respected as the "tried and true" choice for pilots who prefer a traditional straight-grade oil without sacrificing modern cleanliness. While multi-viscosity oils have their place, many of our local operators with radial engines or older opposed-piston designs want the high film strength and consistency that only a premium single-grade can provide. We recommend Type A because it utilizes the same elite base-oil quality found in the famous X/C® line, but in a dedicated single-weight format that stays stable under the heavy loads of a PNW takeoff.

APPLICATIONS & OPERATIONAL GUIDELINES
RADIAL & OPPOSED ENGINES: Specifically formulated for engines requiring a single-grade oil. Grade 100AD (SAE 50) is the go-to for opposed pistons, while Grade 120AD (SAE 60) is engineered for the heavy-duty demands of radial engines.
CLEAN BREAK-IN: Can be used for a "quick and clean" break-in period, as well as continued use all the way to TBO (Time Between Overhaul).
ASHLESS FORMULA: Unlike older mineral oils, the AD chemistry ensures that lead salts and carbon stay in suspension, where they can be drained away during your oil change rather than sticking to your rings.
CERTIFICATIONS: Fully FAA approved. Meets Avco Lycoming 301G, Pratt & Whitney Service Bulletin 1183, SAE J1899, and Teledyne Continental MHS-24B.
